I actually like/own/owned/wish to buy some of these so I'm kind of off topic by saying what's popular instead of overrated, but..
Eles: Elite Kurzick for males (guilty), Elite Luxon for females
Rits: Ancient dyed black for both genders (guilty), but it emphasises the jewelery so I can understand why people tend to dye it black.
Rangers: Norn, both genders
Paragons: Vabbian (was guilty) and FoW.
Mesmers: Elite Enchanter's dyed black for males (guilty), and Elite Kurzick and FoW for females
Warriors: Elite glads or Vabbian for females, Primeval for males
Dervish: Primeval in black
Monks: I can't help but mention the FoW/chaos gloves/blindfold mix... However I can definitely understand why people who play female monks would buy EotN headgear due to a lot of scalp designs being hidden by hairstyles. Also, 1k Kurzick for females.
Necros: Elite Luxon, both genders. Elite Cabal for females - dye matching hair colour (was guilty)
Assassins: Elite Luxon on males, Vabbian on females

Under this meaning, Black FoW is undeniably overrated, anyone with a brain cell knows how crap it looks, but thousands of people rate it highly because it makes them look leet.
Seriously, I'll laugh at anyone who tries to defend black FoW.

Male war FoW+chaos Gloves - WTF is with that gap? lololol. Just looks stupid to have gloves end in the middle of the forearm and chest piece to start above the elbow.
Black Monk FoW - It could be good to, y'know, have some originality and try other colours.

Agreed.
Anyway asuran armor for the ranger is overrated. Its just elite drakescale but with a grind to get. And just dyeing armor black is overrated seriously it takes out the detail use different color...

If you buy armor and dye it black to look rich and "leet", you're doing it wrong. Buy armor for yourself, not for others. Compliments on that armor are just icing on the cake.

Overated = a lot of talk, for something that really doesn't deserve it. Not all popular things are overrated, but FoW armor is xD.
Also not everyone has the same tastes when it comes to armor and dyes.

As been pointed out again, there's no overrated armor types, because it's depend on each players.
A lot of ppl here saying Obsidian, but out there, there are people that just like the art, not thinking about the elite status it may give (not that elite nowadays anyway -_-; )
If this thread is about giving an opinion, without sort of labeling to all community that one particular armor must be avoided (trust me a lot of people out there care about what ppl think of their armors, thus creating a bad stereotype) then I will also contribute ^^
In my opinion exactly same as many people have stated, (which come as a surprise for me, cause other ppl think so too ) monk obsidian + chaos glove + the mask.. omg, I even have that image patented in my mind when I think of a male monk armor ^^;
Other is.. hmm.. black dyed mesmer Obsidian.. not so creative IMO and it look...bland >.< and picking up from old memory, gladiator chest + charr hide head-gear warrior in 2005 this is a bad combo and everyfreakingwhere... >.>
PS: I am sleepy, some of the sentences may not makes sense.. -_-; probably tmrw wake up and wtf-ing myself of what I've wrote today ^^

Male dervish FoW and Norn armor makes me chuckle. They are like female tank tops without the headgear.
Male warrior primeval and monumental armor is just plain ugly... the spikes look too cheesy.
The only armors I find practical and beautiful are probably the mesmer's and maybe elite templar of the warrior's.

None are overrated. How can any of them be? They all have the same stats sans insignias. It all simply comes down to personal preference and what one wants, and that's too subjective to speak about generally like this. There was a time, long ago, when Fissure armor sets were a rarity and had some esteem, but that is no longer the case now. Even back then it really only came down to whether or not you wanted to work for it - having it only signified that you did. Nowadays, its pretty easy to get.

i cant agree more with you.
if you LIKE the art, the armor was worth it no matter what cost it had, 1k or 1000k, all the same since it is virtual money, and getting it is just a part of the game. Now if i was worth grind or no (yes some people have to grind for 1k sets :s ), just depends how much you like it, thats all.

So, there's nothing wrong with people thinking that the earth is flat, and that creationism is true?
Opinions can be wrong. And Black FoW being good is one of them.
